Anyone knows an ant can't

My rubber plant is unwell. I don't know what to do - nor does Google. And Gardener's Question Time is completely out of my league.

One by one its lower leaves are turning yellow and dropping off.  I'm doing all the right things - plenty of light, watering once a week (always with water, never with petrol) - you're my last hope.

I have in the back of my mind the maxim that one shouldn't trust a doctor whose office plants are dead.

(A more powerful maxim is that one shouldn't trust a doctor whose receptionist is dead.)

ok.....

i think that the brown leaves (if they are only the leaves at the bottom) are the "spent" leaves and are being shed... so you can pull them off and throw them away! if leaves further up the plant are being effected i am not sure!

be careful not to overwater the plant too as that can kill it, the best way to feed a plant is to sit the roots in water for a little while!

alternativly..... you could ask the garden center (just dont ask the saturday staff!!!!) if that doesnt work..... you could buy a plastic plant.... they live longer!!!

NB: if your plant dies- its not my fault!!!!!

I thought plants that turned yellow were lacking magnesium? Very vague and distant memory it might well be, but it might save your plant.

ditch and get a plastic plant?

you are very correct sir, the magnesium is required for inclusion into the structure of the chlorophyll(bit like iron at the centre of 'haem' for the medics out there), but that depends on whether the leaves are yellow but alive or brown and dry and dead, cos ur not going to repair a dead leaf with magnesium, try a houseplant feed like baby bio or something. cant expect it to live forever on the solutes that were in the compost originally!

not a plastic one!
That says that you can't be bothered to try and keep things alive! Continually replace it with a new living one of you have to!

I remember a friend of mine's girlfriend went a bit yellow...

...he ditched her for a plastic one.

(After what he described as quite a fulfilling relationship with the new inflateable 'girlfriend', it all ended quite sadly as I recall - she got a puncture...)

Which prick bought you a rubber plant?
They could've been polite and got you some crysanths that'd die anyway in a week so you could get shut of them.
